MichaelJ is on a distinguished road
Default Hi I'm MichaelJ

Hello, I’m MichaelJ. I’m a lifelong Wisconsin resident. Music is my passion, my hobby and avocation. I’m a Vinyl Freak and am thrilled with its resurgence the last few years. For me, there is nothing quite like the warm and human sound of analog. I do buy CD’s and legally download mp3’s but I find dropping the needle on the slab of wax to be the most fulfilling. There is something tangible about vinyl, being able to read the liner notes, and see the cover that speaks to me and I prefer the sound. Pops and all. Now, please don’t flame me for my preferences. It’s the music that’s important. Enjoy it anyway you want. This is simply how I choose to enjoy it.

I also want to mention that I have been a drummer in various Blues/Rock, RnB and Cover Bands since the mid 70’s. I quit my last band about a year ago (creative differences, what else?) and I am thinking it might be fun to bash around with some people in the Appleton area. I’m not sure I want to play clubs again anytime soon but I would enjoy a jam… Drop me a line if interested.

Welcome to Wismuisc.com MichaelJ. I am happy that you signed up and hope to read more from you in the future. I bet you have many stories as a band member. I also bet you have an intersting opinion on music , especially since you embrace old school vinyl. Browse this site for topics, I am sure there are a few that are just calling for your contribution, either pro or con. The most important part is that you share and discuss music, which is what brought us to this site in the first place.
Remember this site is only as good as it's members. Return often and share more. Keep the beat going.

oh and one more thing, I am way old enough for old school but I embrace the new tecnology. The idea that I can carry around a major part of my music collection and listen anytime I want just blows me away. There are times during the day when I just need to escape my environment. My mp3 player does that for me.

Music is music, how one chooses to listen to it is a very personal choice. It’s about personal taste and how you like to listen. I would never presume to say there is something wrong with someone listening to mp3’s or CD’s. They simply are not my preferred formats. I’m glad you have found something that works for you Stoney. My work life is filled with technology. I’m a multi media artist for an in house marketing department. I’m mixing sound, creating images, shooting and editing photography and video, Digitally, all day. I suspect that is part of the reason I like analog. It requires a different sort of interaction from the listener. In a lot of ways it requires more work. I liken it to the difference between a wood and a gas fireplace. They both produce light and heat. With gas, you flip a switch. Wood has to be cut, stacked and the ashes need to be removed. It’s more involving. For me, analog is more involving and the music coming from the speakers is a shared experience. Yes, my wife thinks it’s a little nuts and the kids wonder why my equipment doesn’t have a remote but it’s how I like to listen to music. In the final analysis, it’s the music that matters. The delivery system is up to the individual.

I’m glad I’ve found this place and I am looking forward to interacting with music lovers here in the Badger State!
