Default Keith's Playlist

OK, here's something I'm looking forward to.

I'm having a party soon to celebrate the publication of my book. The party's looking like a wedding reception. Food, drink, music. I'm choreographing the music for the evening!

Music Masters Entertainment - http://musicmastersentertainment.com/ is the mobile DJ service I'll be using. They've been GREAT so far. They know I wanted to do my own playlist and called my office this week to set up a time Monday night to get together to make sure we're right on for next Friday night. That's responsible in my book!

So, rather than bore the he** out of everyone there, I'll put up the choices - and the reasons for them - here. Someday (hopefully at least a hundred years from now) someone can use pieces of this list for the music at my wake!

I invite any Wisconsin music fans to do their own playlist thread here, too!

Regards,
Keith

Default Pretty Woman, Roy Orbison - # 1

OK, my first favorite song and my all-time favorite remains Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman.

That'll be the first song, the middle song and the start or finish of the last set.

Default Cocktails, pre-dinner - early stuff

OK, got to pay tribute to the stuff I heard my folks play, mainly on the car radio on otherwise quiet rides to and from Grandma and Grandpa's house in Oconomowoc from Milwaukee or wherever else I was at the time.

Mostly country, some pop. I really liked a lot of this, and this was before I ever had my own radio (other than the crystal kit with the wire that I fastened to a street sign as an antenna) and certainly before I ever purchased music.

Hank Williams -

To keep with the party atmosphere I'll skip these personal favorites, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, Cold, Cold Heart, and Your Cheatin' Heart.

We'll go with the more upbeat Hey Good Lookin' and "Jambalaya (On the Bayou)"

Next, some Jim Reeves. Downbeat though they may be, my favorite Reeves' tunes are He'll Have to Go and Four Walls. Reeves has the deepest, richest, most emotional yet masculine voice out there, with the possible exception of Johny Cash.

Johny Cash...comin' up soon.

First, Charlie Pride's signature, Kiss an Angel Good Morning

Then Glen Campbell with "Gentle On My Mind"

"Strangers in the Night" by Frank Sinatra

Now, Johny Cash with I Walk the Line and Ring of Fire

Break for Grace, introductions and dinner.

Regards,
Keith

OK, during Dinner, songs from my early teens:

How about the first five singles I bought in 7th grade:

And the Title song of my first album, Simon & Garfunkels' Sounds of Silence

Along with S&G, I did a report in music on Yesterday by the Beatles
Now, some of the stuff that was "edgy" at the time:

Bob Dylan, Blowin' in the Wind
Jimi Hendrix, All Along the Watchtower
Santana, Black Magic Woman
Rolling Stones, You Can't Always Get What You Want

That's it for now. Will complete this thread soon.

Thanks, Matt from www.MusicMastersEntertainment.com ! Matt's been hanging out with me the last couple of hours to put this together and I'm totally impressed! 80,000 songs digitally, besides the karaoke stuff! And the one or two he might not have, he's getting for me. (Locomotive Breath!)

I'll be back on this thread and Matt's calling on me again by Thursday.

Regards,
Keith

Default High School

High School - those were the days. From 7th grade through high school, most of us listened to the most music of any times in our lives, the stuff that helped define us.

There are at least 40 more I'd like to add here. Slow ones. And 40 more fast ones. And a few whole album sides. Just trying to keep it manageable for the party.

The American Music Anthem: American Pie - Don McLean

Crocodile Rock - Elton John

Elton John, Bennie & the Jets

Time In A Bottle - Jim Croce, an artist who left way too early

Brother Louie - Stories

BTO, Takin' Care of Business

The Joker- Steve Miller Band

Colour My World was the theme for Junior Prom, wasn't it?

The best slow dance EVER, Chicago, Colour My World

Elton John, Daniel
I missed my brothers during these years. This song reminded me most of them.

America, Sister Golden Hair

There's a story with every song in this playlist. Played this one about 50 times at the going away party the night before I left for basic training. Married 8 weeks later.

lyrics found at http://www.lyricsfreak.com/a/america..._20007176.html

Well I tried to make it sunday, but I got so damn depressed
That I set my sights on monday and I got myself undressed
I aint ready for the altar but I do agree theres times
When a woman sure can be a friend of mine

Well, I keep on thinkin bout you, sister golden hair surprise
And I just cant live without you; cant you see it in my eyes?
I been one poor correspondent, and I been too, too hard to find
But it doesnt mean you aint been on my mind

Will you meet me in the middle, will you meet me in the air?
Will you love me just a little, just enough to show you care?
Well I tried to fake it, I dont mind sayin, I just cant make it

Well, I keep on thinkin bout you, sister golden hair surprise
And I just cant live without you; cant you see it in my eyes?
Now I been one poor correspondent, and I been too, too hard to find
But it doesnt mean you aint been on my mind

Will you meet me in the middle, will you meet me in the air?
Will you love me just a little, just enough to show you care?
Well I tried to fake it, I dont mind sayin, I just cant make it

Regards,
Keith

Default Service 1975 to 1978

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greetin...ry_Park%2C_N.J. has my favorite single album side (the second side) - Springsteen's Greetings from Asbury Park The album was released in '73 but I discovered it when Johny K Howell from North Carolina turned me onto it in Germany around later 75, early 76. The songs are "The Angel", "For You", "Spirit in the Night" and "It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City".

For the party, we'll stick with Springsteen - Spirit in the Night I'd heard that one a couple of times in the States, came to love it on this album side.

Black Water - Doobie Brothers

Hotel California - Eagles

Miss You- The Rolling Stones

Feel Like Makin' Love - Bad Company

Fire On The Mountain - Marshall Tucker Band

Time for Strawberry Letter 23 - the Brothers Johnson

The lyrics are incredible with the melody, and a great funky base:

Hello, my love
I heard a kiss from you
Red magic satin playing near, too

All through the morning rain
I gaze - the sun doesn't shine -
Rainbows and waterfalls run through my mind

In the garden - I see west
Purple shower, bells and tea
Orange birds and river cousins dressed in green

Pretty music I hear - so happy
And loud - blue flower echo
From a cherry cloud

Feel sunshine sparkle pink and blue
Playgrounds will laugh
if you try to ask
Is it cool?, is it cool?

If you arrive and don't see me
I'm going to be with my baby
I am free - flying in her arms, over the sea

Stained window, yellow candy screen
See speakers of kite - with velvet roses diggin' freedom flight

A present from you - Strawberry letter 22
The music plays, I sit in for a few

Ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...

A present from you - Strawberry letter 22
The music plays, I sit in for a few

Ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...

"Baby, I Love Your Way" Frampton From Frampton Comes Alive - saw him on tour in Germany...I'd like to do "Do You Feel Like We Do?" but at 15 minutes or so, a bit long for the party. By the way, Gary Wright opened this show with "Dreamweaver"

Two songs for a short-timer:

"Baker Street" (1978), by Gerry Rafferty

Leonard Skynard, Free Bird

Default Disco? Disco!

OK, this is legit...in a way.

When I first got out of the service I went to school full time and I was a bouncer at a local disco several nights a week.

Hope this will kick off some dancing. like Music Masters Entertainment suggests.

The DJ can have at this for the next half hour. Just include a couple of KC and the Sunshine Band tunes.

Please finish with Kool & The Gang - Cherish

Regards,
Keith

Requests welcome.

Default Goodnight sweetheart...

That's roughly 4 1/2 hours of music, more with requests.

Guess the DJ from www.MusicMastersEntertainment.com can handle it from there.

Just make sure Pretty Woman is in the last set.

Hope everyone has fun. I'm really looking forward to the celebration of the release of my book, WebForging.

Regards,
Keith
