Imagine: What If John Lennon & Paul McCartney Had Never Met?
I was just watching former Beatle Paul McCartney perform Let Me Roll It on YouTube and that has to rank as one of my favorite Wings tunes but I was most struck by a comment someone made concerning how Paul would have fared if he'd never met John. They speculated he might have gone on to become a "cook or something". Kind of makes you think, regardless, of the effect some people have in our lives, doesn't it?
Paul, being a talented musician in his own right, might have gone on to play in another band and still have been just as influential musically as he is today. Who drove or influenced who? I realize it's all conjecture but what is your opinion? |

Great question, Dave.
IMHO, it was a tremendous mix, a lot of group dynamics between these two, the principal writers, and all four musicians in the band, and the other musicians they admired and their peers. Paul - always much more in the Wings vein. Catchy pop. John - much more in the Imagine vein. Capable of catchy pop but wanting to explore, to protest, to satirize. And then George and Ringo. Look what they've done with other groups of musicians. No doubt they were part of the Lennon/McCartney dynamics. Regards, Keith

I can't 'imagine' John and Paul not ever meeting up.
But I truly believe with the tremendous musical talent held by both they would have become widely known in their own right.

I definitely think John had more talent as a songwriter.. love Paul too tho.

If you ever heard of Stephen Covey and 7 habits for highly effective people ,you know the term synergy,where the toal of the group working in synergy is greater than it's sum.
John Lennon & Paul McCartney were perfect examples of synergy.
