Great question, Dave.

IMHO, it was a tremendous mix, a lot of group dynamics between these two, the principal writers, and all four musicians in the band, and the other musicians they admired and their peers.

Paul - always much more in the Wings vein. Catchy pop.

John - much more in the Imagine vein. Capable of catchy pop but wanting to explore, to protest, to satirize.

And then George and Ringo. Look what they've done with other groups of musicians. No doubt they were part of the Lennon/McCartney dynamics.
